Cielo at House in the Roses is hosting Show Off Your Cottage. And see Mosaic Monday posts over at Mary's Little Red House.
Cielo asked what cottage meant to us. For me it's welcoming and comfortable, homemade and vintage. It's folk art and collections. It's children and pet friendly. It's taking care of things that your great grandmother made. It's where faith and imagination can flourish. It's a home where love resides.
Top row: Quilt made for me by my Great Grandmother, embroidered linens, hand painted platter and blue and white dishes.
2nd Row: Wooden spoons in a crock, folk-art bird painting, potted flowers and herbs on the deck.
3rd Row: Shawnee pottery bluebird, heart wall plaque, chinese-checkers game.
4th Row: Folk-art carnival painting, cat on crocheted afghan, green depression glass.5th Row: Wooden pig cutting board, metal star, enough flag decor to make Betsy Ross proud.
6th Row: My daughter's nesting dolls, santos, guest bed with another quilt my great grandmother made and embroidered pillowcases.
7th Row: Cobalt blue nesting hen, crewel sunflowers stitched by my mother, my grandparents chime clock.
8th Row: April Cornell and vintage tablecoths, hand painted metal tray, my son's favorite stuffed shark.
What is cottage to you?

I loved your mosaic today! It is extra special because of all the hand-made items you have so beautifully displayed! I think the mosaics are the neatest way to display items on a blog...I need to take some time one day and learn to do that. Do you have a special program that you use?
ReplyDeleteThat nesting hen makes my heart pitter patter, especially in blue! I love blue!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous mosaic. I love your grandmother's quilts as well as the linens.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing that lovely mosaic. What a great thing: to have quilts your great-grandmother made for you, so special! Wow!
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Carolien
Very pretty mosaic! I can only do a few of those with my Microsoft Picture it. I need to learn how to do more!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words about my DGD's smocked dress. You asked me awhile ago if I had any of my needlepoint projects on my blog and sadly, I don't. Most were given away before pictures taken & ALL were done years before digital cameras. :( Maybe someday I'll get back to it.
Thanks for stopping by!

I saw a gorgeous chicken salad served in 1 of those chicken glass bowls.
ReplyDeletereally lovely items: I like the bird painting and green glass dish the most :-)

What beautiful things you have in your cottage - I like the cat on the Afghan, personally. The star is nice, too - a beautiful color.
ReplyDeleteWonderful mosaic and wonderful, colorful goodies found in your home ...complete with kitty!
ReplyDeleteI really like your definition of cottage. For me it means a cosy, safe place where we can be ourselves, surrounded by lovely things and people who love us.
ReplyDeleteWhen and where I grew up, a cottage was called a bungalow, as 'we're going to the bungalow for the weekend'.
Beautiful accessories! Cottage to me is a home where love exists..Christine
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog. What a great mosaic. I can see that you love quilts too! I need to learn how to do a mosaic. Love & blessings from NC!

I loved looking at each and every
ReplyDeletepicture in your mosaic and reading about each one. My favorites were the Cobalt blue nesting hen and your daughter's nesting dolls.
I love your cottage mosaic; and don't you LOVE April Cornell table linens? Wish I had some!!!
ReplyDeleteCottage to me is more a state of mind, a close and cozy feeling in a home -- nothing in the home that's pretentious or put there to "impress." Instead, the home is built around comfort and family, welcome and love.
Cass
I really love this! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Shawnee collector but don't have that bluebird....very sweet. Love the quilts that your great grandmother made.

Great post, and loved seeing your treasures! -Tammy
ReplyDeleteYour mosaic is just beautiful. I have a cozy cottage garden that wraps itself 'round the front of my house. It adorns itself with a rose arbor gated entrance with a bistro for tea, a flowing fountain and stepping stones leading to the deck. That is what cottage is to this Ozarks gal!
ReplyDeleteGod bless and have the best day!!!
