Blue Transferware Dishes At Thanksgiving?

So... I had this dilemma...

Many of the things in my house are blue.  Including almost all of my dishes.   I have some special guests coming this year for Thanksgiving dinner,  and I really want my table to look nice.  Blue isn't thought of as a Thanksgiving color, but I didn't want the expense of all new dishes.  I love my blue dishes and wanted to use them on the table.

So I talked to Nancy, at  Nancy's Daily Dish.  She always posts pictures of beautifully decorated tables on her blog, and I knew she would have some ideas for me.

Take a look  at what she posted the other day!!

(these photo's were used with permission from Nancy.)

Oh my!  Isn't this gorgeous?  A beautiful table for fall, incorporating blue transferware along with the browns and oranges that are usually associated with this season!!

THANK YOU Nancy!!  You were so sweet to do this for me!

I have been out looking for table linens and centerpieces that will help meld my blues into fall.  Can't wait to see it all come together!

(Please visit her blog because she has a bunch of other photo's that show the table up close.)

  1. Now isn't that a beautiful table scape! That actually was something I needed to inspire me for our Thanksgiving table, as well. I just put out my "fall/winter dishes" last week...blue and white Currier and Ives. I was thinking the same as you...not really fall colors. Now I have all sorts of ideas going through my head.

Thank you, Gayle, for letting me know about your son. I will continue to pray for him.

  2. Beautiful. My immediate thought was blue is perfect because it goes so well with orange and brown. And then wala! a beautiful table appeared.

Can't wait to see your Thanksgiving pictures.

  4. Such a nice post! Thank you for mentioning my tablescape. I'm glad you found some ideas from it. I cannot wait to see what you do with your table.

I am loving the oranges and blues together. In my shop...actually behind the table...I have a wall painted a rusty orange color and did a wallscape with lots of blue plates and a big Turkey platter in the center. The blue really stands out against it.

    Kind wishes,

    Nancy

  21. My mother's good dishes that we used at Thanksgiving were blue and white transferware. It was that Currier & Ives print that you see tons of at antique stores. Think they gave them away at grocery stores or something. Anyhow, that is what I always think of when I think of Thanksgiving. Blue and white.
