Do you remember playing with these when you were a kid?
Or these?
Companies like Whitman and Russell created the cutest little card games for children:
Hearts, Authors, Snap, Old Maid, Crazy Eights and Animal Rummy.
This is my small collection of vintage children's card games.
Most of these were games from my Grandmother's house.
I keep them in an old sewing machine cabinet drawer.
Here is my sister's big collection. She has five times as many as I do.
I would love to find some Racey Helps "Woodland" games for my own collection.
Old Maid is still my favorite card game.
What fun illustrations!
Little boxes guaranteed to provide hours of fun!

ReplyDeleteThose are so cute! I love the old graphics on them. So colorful and cheerful.
ReplyDeleteWhat an unique collection, Gayle. I wish I still had the ones from my childhood days. It is something I've never thought of as collectors material, but looking at yours inspires me to start looking for such items when I am out and about.
ReplyDeleteI do not recall some of these. However, the Old Maid one we played. You and your sister have a great collection of this.
ReplyDeleteI used to play Old Maid with my dad! I would always stick the old maid up higher so he would take it, never realizing he was letting me win!
ReplyDeleteYes I do too!! They have such sweet and innocent graphics, just melt your heart.
ReplyDeleteGreat collection!!
*hugs*deb
I love these old children's card games! What a fabulous collection!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't thought about these card games in years, and had forgotten how pretty the illustrations are. I had the first set, and Authors, as a child. This is a great post.

ReplyDeleteOh! I love this post! I found some of my old cards, loose in a drawer at my parents house recently. I used to play Old Maid with my Dad when I was little, a favorite memory of mine.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the sweet memories and I think I feel a new collection coming on! :)
Happy VTT,
Sally
Thanks for bringing back some good memories. We too had several of those decks.
ReplyDeleteThe art work is so classy, unlike the spiderman and transformers on them now.
My sisters and I spent many, many hours playing Old Maid! Thanks for the memories!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great collection. I've never heard of the Racey Helps.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great reminder of what we had. Do you remember "Author" cards with pictures of the author and titles of the books they wrote? Helped me later on tests to get those answers right:)

ReplyDeleteFloods of memories! I haven't thought about those old card games for a hundred years. I had only one sister and we played lots of games with each other. Wow. Wish I still had our old cards. To see some of the pictures as an adult is pretty funny.....I still like the Little Bo Peep look!
ReplyDeleteGreat fun and memories.
ReplyDeleteLove your collections.
Melinda
Thanks for coming to visit me. Would you believe I found those Pfaltzgraft dishes for 50 cents each at a thrift store a week or so ago? I wanted them in the day too but had bought the Yorktown so I couldn't have them either. Funny stuff many years later:)
ReplyDeleteI love the cards. I do remember them but I haven't seen any of them for a long time. You and your sister have a wonderful collection. Doylene
ReplyDeleteThose are great to have. I remember many of them. Deb =^..^=x5
ReplyDeleteLove the collection. Vintage cards are so fun.
ReplyDeleteI recently found an Old maid card game at the GW. It is not as old as yours are, but I know it is over 35 years old as I remember it from when I was a kid. I was going to give you a link, but I guess I only posted to Facebook so far. Maybe I will include it in a VTT one day:) Love the illustrations on your cards. What a fun thing to collect. I hope your sister lets you grab first!
ReplyDeleteI love how your collection is in the old drawer!
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome. I have a few of them somewhere myself.
ReplyDeleteI love those illustrations, and no, we never had awesome cards like that. I do remember playing cards at my grandma's with a regular deck, and we bet pennies!
ReplyDeleteI definitely remember having decks of cards similar to this. What a fun thing to collect!
ReplyDeleteHi! And thank you for your kind comment on my blog! Oh boy - do we have a lot in common...I have always been a paper doll fan. That was my favorite thing to do when i was a child. And love tea/tea cups/tea pots...and those old card games...and crocheted clothes potholders (I have some of my grandmother's)...and quilting...and those vintage doll cards - I have some sent to me as a little girl for my bday (have to look in my scrapbooks that my mom made for me)...and I had a jr prom dress similar to #11! Enjoyed the godzilla story - my little granddaughter has always loved dinosaurs - prefers animals and dinosaurs to dolls. Your blog is so enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful! I'm in love with these games since I picked up my first two summers ago. TFS. Happy VTT!
