You know you're in Kansas when...


...you see these blooming everywhere.
I love our wild sunflowers!

    I haven't grown sunflowers for some years, but they really are the symbol of summer.

    Wild Sunflowers..........how lovely. I have a packet of seeds ready to go and the bed is prepared and full of lovely cow manure waiting to do it's thing.

    I imagine those on the east coast would love to be sharing your blue sky and sunshine too Gayle.

    A German Baptist farmer planted his fields in sunflowers several years ago and harvested all that seed. He did it once but never again. He either made enough money to retire on or it was just too much work and the pay was poor.

    When we lived in Kansas we never tired of the fields of wild sunflowers - thank you for sharing them with us again, brought back great memories.

    Sunflowers are such happy flowers aren't they! Maybe it's 'cos they're sunny yellow and bloom when it's hot and summery and people are at their most care free and they remind us of that summer season when we see them??

    Beautiful photo! It's definately Sunflower time. We need some rain here in Texas. I had them earlier this summer and got some great photos with the birds pecking the dried seeds. Looks like I'll have to revist those pictures to have any for September posts! Good to be back visiting with you again.

    I didn't realize you were in Kansas. I have a dear internet friend from there... I guess we've 'known' each other for over ten years now. I have always loved sunflowers, but like them even more now... I always think of Kansas! :o)
