I haven't grown sunflowers for some years, but they really are the symbol of summer.
ReplyDeleteWild Sunflowers..........how lovely. I have a packet of seeds ready to go and the bed is prepared and full of lovely cow manure waiting to do it's thing.

A German Baptist farmer planted his fields in sunflowers several years ago and harvested all that seed. He did it once but never again. He either made enough money to retire on or it was just too much work and the pay was poor.

ReplyDeleteSunflowers are such happy flowers aren't they! Maybe it's 'cos they're sunny yellow and bloom when it's hot and summery and people are at their most care free and they remind us of that summer season when we see them??

ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo! It's definately Sunflower time. We need some rain here in Texas. I had them earlier this summer and got some great photos with the birds pecking the dried seeds. I didn't realize you were in Kansas. I have a dear internet friend from there... I guess we've 'known' each other for over ten years now. I have always loved sunflowers, but like them even more now... I always think of Kansas! :o)
