I finished my giant granny!
Learning to crochet has been a huge challenge for me.
So this was a major accomplishment.
So this was a major accomplishment.
It's not perfect.
I still have some of that wonky twisting going on.
But I don't think the wonkiness will matter this winter
when it's freezing cold outside and I need something to cuddle under.
Someone suggested that I try turning my project around, from front to back,
between each row. Have any of you had success doing that?
I will try that on my next granny and let you know how it goes.
Yes, I want to make another one!
I used a size I/9 (5.5 mm) hook and "I Love This Yarn" in soft blue, medium blue,
turquoise, pistachio, limelight, soft pink, pink, cream and white.
Mine has about 50 rounds and a scalloped border to finish it off.
I used two skeins in the colors I repeated most often, soft blue and white,
but only needed one skein for each of the other colors.
Beautifully made and a lovely selection of colours too. Any wonkiness is embraced and part of its own little history! Sadly I lost ability to crochet years ago - I stopped for a while and erased all skills from my memory banks!
ReplyDeleteI hope that life is being kind and warm
Best wishes

Congratulations with this beautiful granny square!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful! Well Done!
ReplyDeleteI love your choice of colours. I have never managed anything this large but I did a cushion cover in a similar pattern and experienced the wonkiness too! And I too was told to work it from the back but havent had a go yet.
Its still looks wonderful and if you hadnt have said I woudnt have noticed.

Love the colors....just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt's really beautiful and will feel so warm and cozy this winter. You should be proud of yourself!
ReplyDeleteYour work looks very nice! Such beautiful colors! I made a giant granny once and it was wonky; had never heard to turn it around, but may try it. You wouldn't think something with this many openings would be warm, but they are!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous... it's turned out lovely, the colours look brilliant together. x
ReplyDeleteI love the colors and I am sure you will get lots of good "snuggle time" under that quilt.
ReplyDeleteMy sister crochets all the time and has done a quilt/throw for each one of her 13 grandkids.
It's so pretty. I do wish I knew how you got that asymmetrical thing going, though. It's WAY cool! :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! What a cozy blanket. It's simply beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe blanket turned out great! I'm sure it will be really warm and cozy during the colder month. :-)

ReplyDeleteHey Gayle, congratulaitons on finishing your throw. It looks great and you know most of the large granny square type throws I've seen pics of, have that wonky thing happening so don't worry too much ......
ReplyDeleteThe colours look lovely. So have you got your next crocheted project planned?

Great job! And I like the colors you've chosen too. It definitely looks like it will warm you this winter!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! Lovely gentle colours that remind me of sea glass and other wonderful things.
ReplyDeleteVERY nice, Gayle! I love the colors you chose. I had a few minutes today and spent it on Pinterest. Through a pinner who started following my crochet board, I found the coolest Granny Square...made to look like a log cabin pattern. She used it to make a pot holder, but when I find the colors I would really like to use, I want to try and make an afghan with that pattern. And I'm sure you are right...this winter when the snow is blowing and it is cold you won't care if everything is perfect or not. :-)
ReplyDeleteWow, that blanket is beautiful! The colors are really pretty.
ReplyDeleteOh, it came out so beautifully! I love all the pretty colors!! Great job, and what a treasure to have and cuddle with! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteI think it's beautiful. Good Job for just learning to crochet. I love crocheting in the winter months, keeps my legs warm while my hands are busy.

*gasp* Girl.. thats stunning! Now, if you don't point out the imperfection, no one will ever see it! Trust me! You should try your hand at doing little granny squares. I have seen some with an owl, hello kitty... all kinds of different things in the center. It would be a great way to try out some new crocheted stitches too :-)I have a fabulous pattern to make a granny square blanket.. here is a link to a photo of it on my blog: http://cheryl-comfort.blogspot.com/2008/10/show-tell.html You'll have to scroll down to see it-- if you want the pattern let me know and I'll send it to you.
ReplyDeletebig hugs,
