Were you a Girl Scout?
I was a Junior and a Cadette Scout.
Years later my daughter was a Brownie and a Junior Scout.
(And my son was a Boy Scout, but that's a separate post for another day.)
The dark blue sash was mine.
(We wore blue uniforms, not green like they do here in the US.)
The brown and green sashes belonged to my daughter.
Recognize any of those badges?
Did you have a favorite that you earned?
I had so much fun learning to sew, making centerpieces,
cooking over a campfire and managing my collections!

What fun times those were!
The books and badges and uniforms might look different today,
but the promise to be honest and helpful
and to do good is still the same.
I wasn't a girl scout but I sure love the cookies!

I was not a girl scout, but was a brownie leader for my daughter's troop. It was so much fun!!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't a "girl scout", but my sister was a Brownie :) which is a junior Girl Guide here in Australia. Not sure why I didn't join up...it looks like something I would have enjoyed!
ReplyDeleteI was a Brownie and a Girl Guide and then a Brown Owl for my daughter who went all the way to Rangers. I can't say enough about the value of the Guiding movement for helping build confidence and a sense of responsibility in young women.

ReplyDeleteI wasn't a GS but now that I'm all grown up, I'm a leader for my niece's troop. I love it. My girls are Juniors and we have a blast.
ReplyDeleteWe had something close called '4H' in Canada, that I was a part of..though we didn't get any of those fun looking badges :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I was a Girl Scout. I loved working on the badges and selling cookies. The ceremonies were fun, too! Nice memories.
ReplyDeleteYes-I was a girl scout but only for a year. I went to girl scout camp and hated it and then after that I wasn't involved. I loved earning the badges though. Neat post!

ReplyDeleteFirst time visitor. I am amazed at your paper doll collection. I collected the ME dolls from her magazine and would cut them out, save them and then give them in a hand made card as a gift. Fun memories. . . .
I was a Brownie and a Girl scout. I can't seem to find any of the books but I still have all my badges in a little candy box. Later I was the leader in my daughter's Brownie Scout Troop. She stayed in long enough to be a Girl Scout for a couple of years.

And I NEVER liked selling the cookies but I sure liked eating them.
My son was a boy scout and earned his Eagle.
I was a girl scout! I think my parents still have my sash w/ all the badges somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI was a Campfire Girl. We had vests with beads that we earned and we would sew them in designs on the vest...I haven't thought about this in years, thanks for bringing back the memories. xo

ReplyDeleteAnd you kept all the badges from you and your family, well done. I don't remember what happened to mine. I was a brownie, girl guide and sea ranger. I too had lots of fun especially learning bushcraft skills and camping.I can't remember all the badges that I earned. Some were swimming, sewing, knots...

ReplyDeleteI always wanted to be a Girl Scout & never had the opportunity. My sons were all in scouting, it's a great organization. I was blessed with a Mum who taught me all i was willing to learn.

The big question is do u still have your "sit upon"? yes I was a girl school all the way to a Cadette and still have my sash too! and brownie beanie and purse.

ReplyDeleteIt has been such a l.o.n.g time I don't remember.. but I was a Girl Scout... you certainly do not hear much about either the Girl or Boy Scouts these days... too old fashioned?? perhaps?? I think they were of great value... thanks for the memories...

ReplyDeleteMs. C. is a brand new Girl Scout this year. She proudly informed me of that fact after I made her a vest out of pretty "DAISY" fabric. (You'll see it on my blog next week).
I never got to join any of those types of groups. I had a deprived childhood, I think. ;*-(
