Lots of gorgeous colours there Gayle and I love the wooden spools. My threads are all on plastic reels and I keep them in plastic boxes made for cotton reels. Not as lovely as your jar....
Claire, you have them all organized in boxes made specifically for them, so you can go right to them when you need them. That is a good thing. I would have to dig if I needed to use something on the bottom. But this jar is more decorative. The white and ecru threads that I use most often are in a tin, in a drawer of my sewing desk.
Perfect timing! Sorting out my sewing room I am looking for clever storage ideas and here you have one! I have lots of older thread in a basket which takes up space, your idea is much better. The green patches in the background look lovely - can't wait to see what you make! Gill xx
My stash of thread looks a lot like yours. Most of it was my grandmother's. I have it in a Singer sewing machine tin. Having it in a glass jar is a great idea!
I keep mine in the drawer of the vintage Singer Sewing machine I bought years ago..treadle kind. Love the fact yours are all wooden spools. I have some in a vintage thread display case. But your right, the colors are very cheerful to have near by.
MIne used to be hidden away. A couple of years ago I re-organized my sewing space and added enough shelf space to display a few more things... like these spools of thread.
Pretty! I have vintage canning jars with old wooden spools of thread in my sewing room. The thread I use is in a drawer of the sewing cabinet, at arms reach. Could your project be a tree skirt?
The white and ecru threads I used most often are in the drawer of my sewing desk. OR already threaded on the machine. No, it is not a tree skirt, but I would like to make one of those someday.
Already I am wondering if you are making a tree skirt for under your Christmas tree...and I love the way you've chosen to display your small spools of color! I see all of the wooden spools and think you have a treasure trove!
Dianna, These are a treasure for sure. Several came from my late MIL. (SIL's, who are not sewers, trashed a whole bag of sewing items. I retrieved that bag and brought it home.)
Pretty! Color makes me happy, too. I hardly have enough spools of thread to put in a jar! I do, however have jars full of fabric, rag balls and fabric yo yos! ♥
Hi Gayle! That is a beautiful jar of thread! I love color, too and it's interesting to me how I respond to it. Your jar gives me a warm, homey feel. Have a nice week! Twyla
I love colorful thread almost as much as I love colorful buttons. Very nice. I like to display my threads on my craft table. I took a styrofoam tree shaped, wrapped it in an old embroidered dish towel, glued different sized nail in it, and made a turntable from an old CD and its holder. Now they're right at my fingertips.
THANK YOU for your thoughtful comments. Replies to your questions will be posted here, so be sure to check back soon. Have a wonderful day! - Gayle, Garden Of Daisies
Everything looks better in a jar. I have a couple of big jars full of vintage spools of thread. They look so pretty. Loving yours!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the pictures of yours, I knew I had to do a post about mine. :-)

DeleteVery pretty-love the colors! I need to find some of those great wooden spools for crafting. My thread is in a sewing basket. Happy Sunday:@)
ReplyDeleteI find empty wooden spools at our local fabric recycling store and sometimes at vintage shops.
DeleteIt s a shame but mine are all together in a box, i need to organize them.
ReplyDeleteHi Baukje, the most important thing is that you do have them together, and you can find them when you need them.

You'll have to take pictures and share them with us!
DeleteI hate to admit but mine are all in a box :( I have a big jar I'm going to dig out and fill up with thread, thanks for the neat idea.
ReplyDeleteBoxes work. At least the threads are together. :-)

ReplyDeleteSome of these spools belonged to my husbands mother.
DeleteSuch pretty eye candy. I don't sew, but I'd gladly fill a jar of pretty thread in a big glass jar!
ReplyDeleteKim, you do so many other types of crafts, it doesn't matter that you don't sew. And your craft-room is filled to the brim with awesome eye candy!

How lovely to have a vintage machine and table, with drawers to put the thread in. The whole thing would be inspirational, not just the thread.
DeleteDelightful photos! These tiny wooden spools remind me of my grandmother. The colors look wonderful in your jar. Wishing you a very nice Sunday.
ReplyDeleteSome of the spools came from my MIL's home.
DeleteLove the colors!!!!
ReplyDelete:-)
DeleteColours make my heart sing too!
ReplyDeleteThey look lovely - good enough to eat (like a jar of boiled sweets!) I'm afraid mine are just hidden away in a sewing basket.

DeleteMy thread is inmy sewing table and on
ReplyDeletea shelf. I also have a tin and a cannister
full of embroidery thread.
M : )
That embroidery floss is a whole other can or worms. Mine is still in a little wooden sewing box... not ideal, but it will have to do for now.
DeletePretty! Color makes me happy, too.

Your jars of rag balls and yo-yos are really pretty, Holly!
DeleteSo sweet! I keep my in jars, too!! I have an old Crisco jar that I keep some in that is fun! Have a great week! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteBlogs like yours are a huge inspiration to me.

ReplyDeleteWarm and homey are two of the nicest things anyone could say. Thank you, Twyla.
Deletefrom here on, I'm keeping thread in a glass jar...love this idea, even better than on the thread holder on the wall.
ReplyDelete:-) One of the many reasons I love blogs- we can share ideas easily.
DeleteThis is very pretty! I just keep my thread in my sewing box.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun way to store your thread! It's so cheery! If I knew a thing about sewing, I would store mine the same way. :)
ReplyDeleteI like cheery. :-)
DeleteLove this idea, bright and cheery.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gayle!
DeleteThis is beautiful, Iove to see thread in a jar! I have mine on wooden spool racks.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Becca!
