"Posy" (1941)
Swanky swigs sitting on a little shelf in my kitchen.
Originally used as a promotional-ware
to package Kraft foods (cheese spreads, mustard, etc...) in the 30's, 40's and 50's,
these whimsical little 3.5 inch juice glasses never lost their popularity
and are still really fun to collect and use.
They were made by the Hazel Atlas Glass Co, in partnership with Kraft,
and they came in a large variety of designs and colors.
I love the flower and cute little animal designs in particular.
Top shelf: "Posy" pattern (1941) in Violet, Jonquil, Cornflower and Tulip,
Middle shelf: "Kiddie Kups" pattern (1956) in orange (dog/rooster), blue (pig/bear),
brown (squirrel/deer) and green (cat/rabbit)
brown (squirrel/deer) and green (cat/rabbit)
Bottom shelf: "Cornflower" pattern (1947) in dark and light blue
The tiny yellow birdie glass on the far right isn't a swanky swig, it's a shot glass.
I'm not a drinker, so here at my house it's a juice glass for little people.
(My Grandmother had one like it and I remember sipping orange juice from it.)

Any swanky swig collectors out there?
I'd love to learn more about these from you.
Joining Vintage Thingie Thursday at The Colorado Lady.
Such a cheery collection. I think I have a slight addiction to glassware and dishware. I'm blaming my grandmother. Smile.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I love Swanky Swigs! I have a few, some have broken over the years, but one time I put one in the dishwasher and the paint washed off! Same thing with those old aluminum cups, can't put them in the dishwasher...
ReplyDeleteYou have a very pretty collection.
Dorothy
While I don't officially collect them, I have more than three... so I guess it's a collection :D. I love everything about them from the Swanky Swig name to the cheery designs. Why can't they package things this cute anymore?
ReplyDeleteI remember these from my grandmothers house. My best friend gave me some for a wedding gift! I ned to look for some with animals. Lovely display!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about your Swanky Swigs but I wanted to say how much I like them! The tulip one on the top shelf is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteReally nice collection! Pretty little glasses make things taste better don't they!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I have a couple but don't know much about them. We had a bunch of the Archie glasses when I was a kid. I bought a couple on Ebay a few years ago for nostalgia's sake. They are on my kitchen windowsill.
ReplyDeleteI really like them, so cheerful.
ReplyDeleteThey look to be in such good condition. I do not collect them, but I remember them.
ReplyDeleteThese cups are just way too cute!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any yet, but they are on my list when I go flea market shopping this summer. Yours are so cute. I'm not too fond of orange ones.
ReplyDeleteCool glasses! I don't remember them that size but do remember ones that sour cream came in. Enjoy:@)
ReplyDeleteThat is one thing that I've never collected - though sometimes I see them in shops. Out here they are quite spendy - sometimes going for over 10.00 a glass - although, maybe not going, but at least priced that way.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up these were our breakfast juice glasses. Darling collection.
Very pretty glasses and they look so well on your shelf.

I collected Swanky Swigs in the mid eighties. I have several tucked away in one of my collectible bins. Not as many as you have though . . . nice collection!

ReplyDeleteOh my sweet grandma had many of these glasses. It was so much fun to choose a glass to use!
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute. Makes you wish jelly still came packaged this way.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have a single swig in my colletion! I think I need to change that don't you??
ReplyDeleteI do remember drinking out of them at my Great Aunt's house. They would also use them at night for their "toddy" before bedtime! LOL!
Blessings

Wow, what a fun post! I've never seen these glasses before, or maybe I just never noticed them when I went to antique malls. You have a marvelous collection. SO cheery! Thnx for stopping by my blog. Have a lovely weekend,

My mother would collect some of these...the animals are the ones I remember from childhood. Not sure what she did with them though. I haven't seen them in years. I'll have to ask her if she "passed them on" to someone.
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to always collect promotional glassware sets and buy products that could be used as glasses when whatever inside was gone. Your collection is very sweet. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm a Swanky girl, too! I think I have four sets. They are just so cute and pretty - hard to resist!
ReplyDeleteI remember when i was young we also had some small glasses like these with flowers.i don't know where they came from.
ReplyDeleteThe first set just shouts spring!

I rarely see these when out thrifting but your collection is FUN and colorful!
ReplyDeleteYour wonderful glasses would fit right in at my 1928 kitchen.
ReplyDeleteI am a huge collector of Swanky Swigs & have an entire wall shelf in my dining room devoted just to them! I only allow myself two of each pattern though. I gotta draw the line somewhere!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day!
Erica
I have an obsession with Starbucks mugs....different colors for each season. So, the color for spring is green. (I have so many that I have sworn off buying any more until the ones I have break!)
ReplyDeleteLove your juice glasses - how cheerful they look! <3
I adore these!!!! I saw some the other day at a Vintage market...they are just darling and your collection is amazing. Happy new week to you.
ReplyDeleteThose brought back fond memories! I remember my mom had those little glasses! Very cute!
ReplyDeleteSwanky swigs are fun. I had a collection of 18 swanky swigs till I sold them last year. Thought it was time to make room for something different.
ReplyDeleteYours look darling in your kitchen shelf.
