Covered Bridges

I was looking through old pictures of my kids and found these.   Did you ever see the movie  "The Bridges of Madison County"?   Well, here are two of those covered bridges.

 Holliwell Bridge, built 1880.

Imes Bridge, built 1870.

6 of the original 19 bridges remain.  These are near  Winterset, Iowa, the tiny town where John Wayne was born.  (Or, for  you quilters out there, the town where Fons and Porter have their store.)

PS-  Update- I found this site online that maps all the authentic covered bridges in the USA and Canada.  Take a look!

  1. Wonderful shots! Every year we go to the Covered Bridge Festival in Indiana. There are about 30 bridges to see, and a big festival in 3 towns. Lots of fun!
    Happy REDnesday!

  5. We made a little side trip to make sure we got to see these two also, several years ago. I was tickled to think that Meryl and Clint were actually standing at the same spot I did! My DH thought it was a bit nutty, but oh well! Thanks for sharing and bringing back a few memories! Sandi

  13. Our covered bridges are all in New Brunswick. We took a trip one summer just to see them all - fun!
I remember that move - it was a winner - one of those that could be watched over and over.

  20. I've heard of people taking a driving tour of covered bridges and think that sounds like a worthwhile trip if only for the photo ops!
