I finished one of the Christmas projects I was working on:
A little tree quilt that I will use to display my collection of Christmas tree brooches.
I cut out a muslin triangle and attached strips of green fabric.
Next I added ric-rac and lace trims
and sewed on the angled side pieces and trunk.
I cut out a bunch of squares to create the rest of the quilt top,
made my quilt "sandwich",
top stitched to hold it all in place
and sewed on a binding.
Beads, sequins and rhinestone buttons added sparkle and shine.
I searched through the Christmas decorations in the basement
and found my tree brooches.
There are plenty of empty squares, so my collection has room to grow.
(Santa always puts one in my stocking.)
I can't wait to hang this in the hallway come December!
Adorable! If you have enough tree pins, you could do an advent calendar! :)
ReplyDeleteLaurie, I need one more pin to do that.
DeleteOh Gayle, how lovely is that! Such an unique way to display your tree brooches. And the one who fills your stocking is definitely a keeper when they put in such beautiful brooches as you have already displayed!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dianna! Yes, he is a keeper, for sure! :-)
DeleteYour quilt turned out great-love it! How fun to be able to display your pins and I love that you have plenty of room for more-enjoy:@)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lynn! Since Santa brings a new one every year, I knew I needed to leave room for the collection to grow. When I outgrow the quilt, I'll go back to displaying some on a platter.
DeleteOooooh, I love Christmas tree brooches and your idea of how to really show them off....Brilliant, for sure! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sherri!
DeleteIt's truly beautiful. I've wanted a quilted table runner and haven't been happy with any of the patterns. This, I love.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Donna! This could easily translate to a runner. You'll have to make one and share a picture with me!
DeleteHow fun is that! What a great idea, with plenty of room to go. Better get hunting!
ReplyDeleteAnn, I found two more today... in a big bin of pins. Together they cost $3, so that was a bargain!
DeleteWhat a wonderful idea and a beautiful collection of brooches. Years ago, I cross stitched a small project to pin some brooches on to display them. I think it's in my cedar chest....I should bring it back out to enjoy. I'm so ready for all of the Christmas treasures to be out!
ReplyDeletePlease do dig that out and share a picture with us!
DeleteIt is sooooooo pretty!
ReplyDeleteM : )
Thank you, Melinda!
DeleteWow! This is so amazing! I love to see talent and creativity here. Thanks for sharing and happy weekend to you!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Happy weekend to you, too.
DeleteAdorable tree quilt and a wonderful idea to display your tree brooches on it.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Terra!
DeleteI love it! You are so talented.
ReplyDeleteThank you Darlene! Kind of you to say.
DeleteOh, this is wonderful! You did a great job. LOVE the tree!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend!!!
Thank you, Carolien. Coming from you, that means a lot, because you always make the loveliest quilts.
DeleteIt's lovely Gayle, you are so organised to have made it in such good time!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of displaying your christmas brooches too, so clever!
Gill xx
Gill, I have another Christmas tree project that I may or may not get done in time for Christmas. So many ideas, so little time.
DeleteI'm going to share this post with my mother who is busy working on another Christmas quilt project. What a beautiful way to display your tree brooches.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kim! Does your Mom have a blog, too?
DeleteWhat a beautiful and wonderful idea! I also collect Christmas tree brooches and usually only wear them on my coat. This is a great idea to enjoy them during the holiday season. You have some beautiful brooches!
ReplyDeleteI wear them on my coat collar, and pin them to the napkins on our Christmas table, too. I love "putting them to work" during the Christmas season.
DeleteOh my word! That is adorable. Such a great idea.
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I'm so glad to see you active on the blog again! :-)
DeleteYou have inspired me to do something similar. I don't quilt but I do have a quilted cushion with 12 squares of assorted Christmas fabrics that I picked up at a thrift store years ago. It looked, and still looks like new. Maybe because it's only out for a month of the year. Anyway, I have six sparkly Christmas pins...a tree, a wreath, a candle, etc.. and I've pinned them on and I love it!! Now the hunt is on for 6 more. Thank you for a great idea!!
ReplyDeleteThe patchwork cushion sounds like a perfect way to display your Christmas pins!! Maybe between the two of us we have started a whole new fad. :-)
DeleteWhat a neat idea - you did a wonderful job.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Betty!
DeleteThank you! It has been so much fun collecting these.
ReplyDeleteOhhh, that is so pretty and so clever, too! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cheryl!
DeleteIt turned out sooo pretty!! I love the colors you used and the sparkle of the Christmas brooches will really be lovely.
ReplyDeleteI have a few of my mom's brooches and a few that I used to wear. They are sitting in a box in my drawer. I often think I should find something to do with them as they are too pretty to be hidden away. You have come up with a perfect solution.
Thank you, Kim! I'd love to see a picture of your tree brooches!
DeleteThis is such a darling idea. I love the Christmas brooches on that pretty quilt . I have 2 or 3 of those trees-I can't wait to get them out and wear them!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Leslie! It always makes me smile when I hear about other people who love these little trees.
DeleteA fabulous Christmas decoration. I know I've said it before but you are so talented.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diane. You are sweet.
DeleteMy goodness, you have quite a collection of brooches there Gayle, they look lovely on your quilt.
ReplyDeleteA great way to display them.......
