Snap, Hearts and Old Maid

Do you remember playing with these when you were a kid?

Or these?

Companies like Whitman and Russell created the cutest little card games for children:
Hearts, Authors, Snap, Old Maid, Crazy Eights and Animal Rummy.

This is my small collection of vintage children's card games.
Most of these were games from my Grandmother's house.
I keep them in an old sewing machine cabinet drawer.

Here is my sister's big collection.    She has five times as many as I do.

I would love to find some  Racey Helps "Woodland" games for my own collection.

Old Maid  is still my favorite card game.

What fun illustrations!

Little boxes guaranteed to provide hours of fun!

  5. What an unique collection, Gayle. I wish I still had the ones from my childhood days. It is something I've never thought of as collectors material, but looking at yours inspires me to start looking for such items when I am out and about.

  13. Thanks for bringing back some good memories. We too had several of those decks.
The art work is so classy, unlike the spiderman and transformers on them now.

  16. What a great reminder of what we had. Do you remember "Author" cards with pictures of the author and titles of the books they wrote? Helped me later on tests to get those answers right:)

Thank you for visiting me via my post the other night when I was trying to find Pickett!

  24. Floods of memories! I haven't thought about those old card games for a hundred years. I had only one sister and we played lots of games with each other. Wow. Wish I still had our old cards. To see some of the pictures as an adult is pretty funny.....I still like the Little Bo Peep look!

  26. Thanks for coming to visit me. Would you believe I found those Pfaltzgraft dishes for 50 cents each at a thrift store a week or so ago? I wanted them in the day too but had bought the Yorktown so I couldn't have them either. Funny stuff many years later:)

  30. I recently found an Old maid card game at the GW. It is not as old as yours are, but I know it is over 35 years old as I remember it from when I was a kid. I was going to give you a link, but I guess I only posted to Facebook so far. Maybe I will include it in a VTT one day:) Love the illustrations on your cards. What a fun thing to collect. I hope your sister lets you grab first!

  35. Hi! And thank you for your kind comment on my blog! Oh boy - do we have a lot in common...I have always been a paper doll fan. That was my favorite thing to do when i was a child. And love tea/tea cups/tea pots...and those old card games...and crocheted clothes potholders (I have some of my grandmother's)...and quilting...and those vintage doll cards - I have some sent to me as a little girl for my bday (have to look in my scrapbooks that my mom made for me)...and I had a jr prom dress similar to #11! Enjoyed the godzilla story - my little granddaughter has always loved dinosaurs - prefers animals and dinosaurs to dolls. Your blog is so enjoyable!
