Sing A Song of Sixpence...

Do you know what this is?

A pie bird !

...Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie.

Have you seen the latest edition of Country Living Magazine?
Mine arrived in my mailbox today.

It has an article about pie birds. (And pie-elephants, and pie-fruit, etc)
These fun little ceramic vents are used when baking pastry to let steam escape
and prevent the filling from bubbling out all over your oven.

These three warblers usually perch in my kitchen window.

1.Yellow beaked blackbird.
2. Hand painted with  blue flowers, by someone with initials C.C.
3. Brown drip bird.

Some day I hope to collect a few more.
I've got my eye on a cute little blue one over at the antique store.

  19. I sure love your collection, and I too just received my magazine yesterday. I have not found a pie bird yet, but I really should keep my eyes peeled for one. The trees I find at Big Lots also Michaels crafts and I am sure Hobby Lobby (we don't have one here in Ca.) And then when I add the bling I use hot glue, and yes some I will give a spray of Glitter. 24. Oooh, lovely! My mom and I saw that article and commented about one that she has that belonged to my great grandma. It's very old so she doesn't use it. I bought her one last christmas that is made of that rubbery silpat material so that it won't break. She loves it.

  26. How cute!! I love those!
I read your post about the accident outside your house! YIKES! I am so NOT medically inclined! I pray that if I'm ever in your situation I can be a help and a calming to the victims. That was so sweet of those boys to bring you flowers. Doesn't that remind you that there IS good in the world? You did a very Christian helpful thing and I'm sure they were very grateful!
    Bless you!

  31. Hello, and thanks for stopping by the High Street Cottage and for your nice comment on my candy cone inspired by Swedish Blogs. I adore pie birds, and have two myself sitting on my chippy white hutch, you can see it when you click "my cottage" on my page. My grandmother had several, and very detailed. I love your white with the blue, not seen one like that, and have always been partial to the black magpies (at least I think that's what they are) ;)
