Afternoon Tea For One

Gathering up everything I need to make a simple pot of afternoon tea for one.  The kettle will be whistling soon.   Since St Patrick's day is coming up and it's only me, I'm using my shamrock 'Herself'  mug.

Twinings Earl Grey is one of my favorite teas.   And I really love my speckled green/brown 'Denby Greystone' teapot.  It has a delightful round shape!

Do you use a teapot or do you make tea right in the mug?  I use a teapot to brew my tea.   Do you use loose tea or a teabag?  I use both.   Do you use milk? Sugar? Lemon?  I only use lemon in mine, but bring out the milk and sugar when friends are over.

I sliced up the lemon and put it in a little green 'Block Optic' depression glass dish.

Ummm.   The tea is such a perfect golden honey color after you add a squeeze of lemon.  And it tastes great!  Such a wonderful way to relax for a few minutes each day.

I have a little giveaway going on at my blog this week.  Come on over and enter your name.  You do NOT have to be a follower (unless you want to)  and I WILL ship internationally.

Be sure you stop by Rhondi's to see all the pretty tables set for tea at  Tea Party Tuesday,  and
Katherine's for Tea Time Tuesday.

  1. Thanks for visiting my blog. If you need suggestions for your book group, let me know. I am a very eclectic reader. Now, on to tea. I like Twinnings too. Earl Grey is especially nice. I like lemon with my tea also, but I will drink milk with mine when I am with my British friends. I'm so glad that we have become friends! I'll stop by to visit you often!

    Love,

  6. Oooo, I'll take a cuppa Earl Grey...one of my favorites! No lemon for me, though, thank you. I'm a milk & sugar kinda gal. Although I own at least 15 teapots, I usually make it in a thermal mug. I like it really HOT!

Your green depression glass is delightful. My post going up later today is all done in green depression. I have a few more photos to take once the sun comes up then it will be ready.

Thanks for stopping by the Gazebo House!

    fondly,

  8. How nice to see you're making tea properly even for yourself! I love Earl Grey and am drinking it right now (with milk not lemon), out of my new china cup which I intend to paint with china paints one day! I don't tend to use a pot though unless it's for more people than just me. I think we all need to make the everyday things more special though, so perhaps I should use a pot too! And have a small vase of flowers on the table!
Natasha is very like Archie isn't she?! I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we'll be referring to him as naughty cat too! xx

  11. I like iced tea. I made some raspberry iced tea yesterday. Hot tea always reminds me of being sick.

  12. We always drink tea out of a pot. Loose and bags, no sugar and milk, lemon is nice. We love all kind of teas, but Darjeeling, Rose and Earl Grey are the favourites!

Have a nice day & greetings,

  13. I love Twinings Teas...but I thought you would be having Irish Breakfast. ;) I love English Afternoon and Prince of Wales along with the Irish Breakfast too.

I make mine in the mug, usually with a teabag and just lemon...sometimes. I have so many teapots I really should use them. But they are like a special treat to me for special times.

  14. Oh, I just love the green depression glass. I always use a teapot. I keep several sizes, love my teapot in one. Most of the time if Tea is just for me I set up a tray to make it more special. I love loose leaf tea and depending on the type of tea I add sugar and milk. No lemon for me, not even in my Iced tea. lol Your tea tea pot is wonderful, I love the top of it. Thank you so much for joining me for Tea Time Tuesday.

  17. Good morning, Gayle,

When I was here just an hour or so ago, your follower list showed 109 and now I see it is 111! I'm SO excited for you, my friend!

First of all, I want to thank you for that very special note you left me this morning on silence. The more you allow me to know of you, the dearer and dearer you become to me. Thank you so much for the gift of your friendship.

And I wanted to let you know that I just finished getting the post up on my grandmother's tins that I'd promised yesterday I'd do today. At the end of that post I shared about your giveaway and provided the link for the folks to click on to come directly to you!

Hope you have a wonderful day today!

  19. Hello again! I just checked out my post from yesterday and found your comments you left there, so decided to come right back here (before I forget) and answer your questions.

Our grandson, Josh, (he was in the pictures from my "What a Weekend!" post) was born in Mexico City, and will have dual citizenship until he turns 18. He was six years old when his family left Mexico...he just turned 11 this past September. It is amazing the impact living those early years of his life in Mexico City continues to have in his life today. It's made for a very unique young man with an extremely tender heart.

I was able to visit them in Mexico City twice while they were there. The first time was 1998, when my husband and our college aged son flew together as a family to spend Christmas with our daughter, son-in-law and three month old Josh! It was a precious time with family and an awakening in my heart of just how very blessed I am to be where I'm at.

Then in either 2003 or 2004 I flew by myself to spend time helping them get settled into a different home than where they'd been previously located. When I went to claim my luggage upon arrival one piece was missing...and I don't speak Spanish and I didn't even have my daughter's address or phone number with me to give to the officials. After being taken to the English speaking Mexican who was working the luggage area, he gave me the telephone number for my son-in-law to call so they could get an address with a promise of delivering the piece of luggage as soon as they found it. Just a few hours later they were ringing the bell at the gate at the house...with my missing piece of luggage in hand! :)

I am having a good day...looking with expectancy for a phone call from the office of the oral surgeon...sometime between today and Friday so I can get the results of the biopsy.

  20. Ohhhhh I love tea. My favorite one is new to me-- Darjeeling..... SOOOO Yummy! Especially when I pair it with my favorite cookies. Biscoff's-- they are the best tea time cookie. They have this sweet cinnamon spice taste. Perfect for dipping ;-) When my mom is here we always use the tea pot but for just myself, I use the kettle and my tea cup (the same one everytime) I enjoyed this little tea time talk. Fun.

  21. lovely! your mug is cute, but what the lemon slices are resting in...ooooh!

i'll take some sugar....well, a lot of sugar actually. :) when flavored teas like Constant Comment are served, we'd like some cream too!

  24. Love your blog! Tea...love it! When I steep my tea I use a teapot and pour the steeped loose tea over a silver strainer into a delicate teacup...no sugar, milk--maybe lemon. I like to enjoy a crumpet with marmalade or a scone with curd. Oh how I love tea! Of course, somedays when I'm in a rush, I enjoy teabags steeped in hot water in a mug with a macaroon:)

  27. Since you asked. I use a teapot and I usually do lose unless I score on something really like Cranberry Blood Orange Tea (Republic of Tea) or Apricot Tea (Ashby's) in the bag for a reasonable price or I splurge or someone buys it for me. ;)

I drink my tea straight and iced (sorry - no hot beverages for this girl).

I prefer black teas - breakfast teas are among my favorite.
