Blue and White Ironstone

You all know the song from "The Sound of Music":
"...when I'm feeling sad, I simply remember my favorite things and then I don't feel so bad."
This has been a rough week for our family and I appreciate everyone's kind words.  We will feel sad for a long time, but we have to keep living.  So, I thought I would give the "favorite things therapy" a try.

Here is one of my favorite things:

I have always loved blue and white china/pottery.  My Mom sent me this gorgeous English Chippendale-Blue (Johnson Brothers) platter a few years ago.  I really like the floral and leaf design and the scalloped edge of this particular pattern.   It was manufactured for about 40 years, then discontinued sometime in the 70's.  It was also made in red and green.  If any readers have researched the Johnson Bros. I'd love to learn more.

It is snowing again.   I love snow, but we still have the last three snows sitting out there.  No one has seen the ground since before Christmas.   Some of the neighborhood kids are taking advantage of the weather and sledding down the hill at the school. (school was cancelled)

  1. Hi Gayle--
As the saying goes "time heals all wounds" but it does take time.
    I like your background.

    Have fun in the snow.

  3. Nell Hill's is a favorite and as much as I like the Atchison sstore and all of the nooks and crannies, the Briarcliffe store is so much closer! I LOVE going there!

  4. What a lovely china you got there, Gayle.

I use this same therapy with my children, and always works.

Please come over. It will be a delight to have a tea talk with you.

  7. Oh I am loving your blog...I love this China!! Actually it is ironstone and is loosely called transferware as the early patterns were actually transferred onto the stoneware. The process changed over time and purists would not consider newer pieces transferware. I collect ironstone by Johnson brothers, Copeland Spode and others. I probably have some posts on them. I have so many place settings you could say I am addicted.
