Who else besides me collects these little wax Gurley's?
Deer.
Trees.
Angels.
that I've pictured in past posts.
These novelty Christmas candles from the 40's, 50's and 60's really tug at my heartstrings
and often make their way into my basket when out vintage shopping.
I love your li'l Gurleys.....they are just too, too cute!!

DeleteI've never heard them called Gurley's before but I remember them -- they were for DISPLAY -- not to burn which is why, I think, so many survive. What a great memory collection . . . but what interests me most is the clock -- does it have a story? The face so looks like my mantle clock in our master bedroom -- which was a wedding present to my parents in 1942!
ReplyDeleteMartha, The clock belonged to my Grandparents. It's a New Haven clock (electric) with Westminster Chimes. The glass face can open to set the hands. I do not have any info about the year they got it, but it was before I was born. It has been here with me since the 80s. The chimes were always such a reassuring sound to me as a kid... all was well with the world because I was with my Grandparents and the chimes were playing.

DeleteYour Gurleys are adorable! I do not collect them now, but I had some growing up. I appreciate diane b's comment above... "Is there anything that yu don't collect?"...Lately it seems when I am out treasure hunting, I find myself saying "Oh, I have that"... Perhaps I 'collect' more than I realize I do. Since I do use my treasures, aren't I considered a collector and not a hoarder... Smile.

DeleteI collect them too! My mom had the choir boys and girls so I think the nostalgia is what got me started! I too have trees, angels, choir boys and girls, santa's, reindeer and even a little eskimo! I've branched out to the "other" holidays as well with witches, pumpkins, easter bunnies, pilgrims and turkeys.

ReplyDeleteWe had them when I was little as my dad worked for Woolworth. Dad still has all of them. I would love to have them someday, but my little sister has spoken for them. Maybe I'll get one!
