First Tomato!

Whooo Hooo!
Look at that!
My first tomato!

I have very little no experience growing vegetables, so this is a BIG DEAL!

For several years I've wished that I could have a vegetable garden,
but it's complicated because most of our backyard is on a slope.
I found a small tomato plant that supposedly does well growing in a pot on a patio
and I decided to give that a try.
Here is the first little green tomato!

Now let's just hope that I can get it to ripen up
and that the squirrels don't eat it before I do.

  3. How exciting to see that green tomato. My tomatoes are still green, and this year I planted a zucchini that it says does well in a pot. This is the first zuke I planted in a pot and it is happy there.
Also whenever it says "bush" or "patio" those veggies do well in pots.

    1. You will have to let me know how your patio veggies do this summer. I'd love to try some zukes.

  10. How lovely - this made me smile. It is the simple things in life that give the greatest pleasure. I have grown broad beans in a large zinc bath this year and I am looking forward very much to eating them ALL raw!
    Best wishes

  11. Good for you! It is always exciting to watch things grow and then be rewarded for the effort one puts into it. Please show us a picture when it ripens...and is on a plate or sandwich about to be enjoyed!

  12. I'm excited for you too. We might need to look into a few container gardens this year too because we have decided to give up our vegetable garden. The deer and Mr. Woodchuck have been enjoying our salad bar and we're going to close it down for a year.

    1. The Deer and Woodchuck families will miss their salad bar. If only they would remember to leave a share for you. Sigh...

    1. I have several little tomatoes on the plant now. If they ALL ripen at the same time, I'll have to find neighbors to share with. :-) Nice problem to have.

  20. Lucky duck....I have been enjoying fresh strawberries off the patio at the nursery. It is hotter than I hoped it would be but my memory of the late snow has not been tarnished too much yet. Smiles...Renee

    1. Fresh strawberries sound wonderful. We have little wild ones growing in grass out in the front yard. I'm sure I have a bird to thank.

    1. Donna, I always get worried when I see how big and beautiful the plants are for other bloggers, and then I remember they live further south and their growing season started much sooner. :-)
