Halloween Costumes

Halloween is the perfect time to play dress-up with paperdolls!
They always have fun costumes to choose from.
All it takes is the fold of a tab and you can change from
a ballerina to a gypsy, witch, princess or cowgirl.

What about in real life?
What was your most memorable costume from childhood?
Have a look at this wonderful getup from a few years decades ago.

(Photo by my Dad.  Family pictures may not be borrowed or pinned.)

My little sister was "Raggedy Andy".
And I was "Little Buttercup",
who sold ribbons, laces, treacle, toffee, scissors and watches and knives
to the Sailors on board the H.M.S. Pinafore.
(Any Gilbert and Sullivan fans out there? Claudia, I hope you're seeing this.)

  2. I am a big softy for paper dolls..thanks so much for sharing these sweet ones.

Your costume was great..wasn't it fun back then to use what you had and your imagination.

My favorite one was in 3rd grade and I went as a genie, using my mom's scarves and costume jewelry..it turned out great! xo

  3. The pic of you and your sis is adorable. Love that creative costume. I was a Hobo one year(not that inventive), but my Grandpa painted a picture of me dressed up like that.It was fun making a costume from scratch. The paper dolls are lovely!

  4. My dear mom made me an elaborate witch's costume in third grade, with many petticoats and a huge witch's hat... how I loved that costume. In those days, we rarely took family pictures... I always wondered what happened to the costume.

  6. I love seeing your paper dolls! Thanks for showing them to us now and then.

I don't remember ever having a costume; guess I'm older than Halloween :) I like "made from scratch" costumes best.

  8. It's been so long ago that I thought of paper dolls. My daughter used to play with them for hours, with me, of course. I guess I will always be a kid.

  9. I enjoy your paper dolls . . . you have quite the collection!

The costumes are a hoot . . . I like homemade costumes like we used to do. I remember during my hospital working days, one time on Halloween day I dressed up like a "bag lady". I was completely disguised and walked in the front door of the hospital and into the cafeteria begging for food. No one knew who I was, and people gave me money and food.

Makes me laugh to think about it yet I am wondering . . . how could I have ever done that!

  10. haha, those costumes are classic. I can't even think of the last time I wore a halloween costume.
BUT.....I'll tell you this funny story about a Judge I worked for in Salt Lake City.
HE HATED halloween, and was always being invited to parties by his peers.
HE HATED dressing up even more.
So, this one time, he bought a white t-shirt...and drew a pea on it. Then he made black circles around his eyes.
When they asked what he was, he said he was a black eyed pea.

I thought that was rather genius.

  17. LOVE the paper doll's and your costumes are fabulous!

My favorite as a kid was a chicken being eaten by a snake. I dressed as a chicken and then wrapped a giant stuffed snake around me. The entire costume was borrowed. I thought it was so unique and fun. :)
