Happy Birthday, Miss Potter!

Happy birthday to Miss Beatrix Potter.

One of my very favorite children's authors and illustrators.
Botanical artist, naturalist, preservationist, farmer and loving aunt.
Certainly a woman ahead of her time.

Several of her sweet little books are scattered around my house,
along with children's china from Royal Albert and Wedgewood.
(Four of the books were mine when I was a child, and
are looking quite tattered, from repeated readings.)

Which one of her tales is your favorite?

I have to call it a four-way tie between
Pigling Bland, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Tom Kitten and Samuel Whiskers.

PS- April, (Whatever Is Lovely), also did a post about Beatrix Potter today.
Hop on over to visit her at Happy Birthday To You, Miss Potter

  1. She was remarkable. I opened my kiddos up to her literature and art when they were toddlers. Claire and I loved the movie a few years ago. I really like how you have sprinkled her stuff around your house...Smiles..Renee

  3. I love the Tale of Two Bad Mice. Likely the dollhouse effects--when I was little I always LOVED stories about mice.
I did a post in her honor today, too! :)

  10. Hey Gayle, here's to Beatrix Potter, a woman ahead of her time..........

Loved the movie, I found it very inspirational on many levels.

I have a Jemima Puddleduck egg cup which I just love. So I guess Jemima, is one of a few favourites.

  11. The Tailor of Gloucester is one of my favourite books ever - all that stitching! I was enchanted by the embroidery and the cherry-coloured twist even as a child.

Hope you will come over and enter my giveaway!

  12. Jemima Puddle Duck has always been my favourite. I have been to Ambleside in the Lake District and seen her house, we didn't go inside though as there are always long queues of people waiting to get in. Linda

  14. Have you seen the movie "Miss Potter"? They did such a lovely job.

My favorite is the one with Mrs. Tiggy Winkle helping the little girl with her pinnies and hankies. I think of it every time I am ironing hankies, which is often.

What a charming plate display you have!

The plates are so sweet. But sweeter are the worn pages-evidence of a real appreciation for her works.
