Teacups and Teapots

I love teacups and teapots.  There seems to be no end to the gorgeous patterns and shapes made by various china manufacturers.  Over the years I have collected a few that I think are really pretty.

This is my very favorite teacup. It's a chintz pattern from Shelley called "Primrose".   See all the little forget me nots in the background?

I have lots of other variations on forget me nots.  These three are all from Royal Albert.  l-r: "Forget Me Not", "Memory Lane" , and "?".  (The Memory Lane in front is my china pattern.)

Here are some pink rose teacups, also from Royal Albert.  (  l-r:  "?", "American Beauty", "Wild Rose", and "Lavender Rose".)

The three pictured here are  all made by Paragon and I do not know the names of any of them.  (If you  do please leave me a message.)

These are the three teapots I use most often.  There is just something so endearing about the round belly of a teapot and the curve of the spout.  l-r:  Denby "Greystone",  Queen's "Blue Calico", and a traditional  "Brown Betty".

Lord Nelson "Heather" chintz cream and sugar.  These were originally a gift to my mother from a dear friend in Canada.   I have had my eye on them for years and last summer she told me I could take them home with me.  I am a lucky girl!

  1. Don't you have a lovely collection of teacups? So pretty. I love tea cups too and have a little green shelf where I keep them in the kitchen. It's not really tea drinking weather here at the moment though, well, iced tea maybe! You'll have to have a few cups for me, it looks so cold where you are. Keep warm xo

  4. I love china cups and teapots too. I have a yellow paragon cup and saucer that are very like your green - right down to the rose motif inside. There is no name on the bottom of the cup, just the words Paragon Fine Bone China Made in England. Chintz patterns are favorites too - so cheery!

  5. I love your tea cups. I have a dear friend who also collects them. And I've been thinking of starting to collect, too, but I always end up buying mugs for my coffee instead, haha.
I love your favorite things, Gayle.

  7. I love your collection!! Beautiful teacups. There is a store where I live called Replacements Ltd. Google their name and go to their website and I'm sure they could help you with the name of your patterns that you don't know. They ship china, crystal and silver all over the world. An amazing business!!! Love & blessings from NC!

  9. Hi Gayle, I love your collection of cups and saucers, particularly the Primrose one, but they're all gorgeous. Do you use them regularly or are they just for special occasions or friends? Next question do you use teabags or loose leaf tea in your teapot?I have a small aluminium tea pot I bought for 50cents in an op shop years ago and it was the best 50cents ever spent I use it 2 or 3 times a day and for me it's most definitely loose leaf tea, even in this hot weather!

  10. What a wonderful collection. That calico blue teapot takes me back to my childhood. I wonder if you use them or just admire them. They almost look too precious to use. Thank you so much for the lovely and thoughtful comments you have been leaving on my blog. I hope you have a great day. X

  11. Since several of you have asked, I should add that I do brew tea in my teapots and drink from my tea cups. I think that pretty things should be used, not just sit on a shelf.

  13. Hi Gayle, in teapots I use loose leaf tea and I very rarely use tea bags these days. I don't use my collection of lovely cups and saucers as often as I should, they are all tucked away in drawers or behind doors, so I tend to forget about them a bit. I do have a lovely collection of fine bone china mugs, the majority of them have lovely English scenes on them, so I choose a mug to suit my mood when I want a cuppa. Must get the cups and saucers out and start using them a bit more

  14. oh my gosh, your teacups are so pretty. Makes me want to go heat up the water and make a cup, and then sit down with you to sip from one of your lovelies. my favorite is the second picture the cup on the right. Love the pale color and design of that one. I think that I would be afraid to use them for fear I would chip them or damage them, but like my mother always said, if you wait for the special occasions to use your favorite things, then life will have gone by and you won't have been able to enjoy them to their fullest. Thanks for sharing your collection with us. I trully enjoyed seeing them. Life is filled with so many wonderful pretty things, wouldn't you love to have just one of everything! ~~ Debby

  18. Wow - you've given me some ideas. I never thought of photographing my tea cups. But it would make a great mosaic, wouldn't it?

  19. The Lavender Rose china pattern is the same as my Mum's. Mine is Bride's Choice. Does anyone pick a china pattern anymore?

  21. Hi, from chrisyscottage.blogspot.com thank for your comment on my blog I use to collect Royal Winton chintz and had up to 160 pieces at one time. I have a lot of it for sale in my shop. I just love all the different patterns out there. Anything Shelly is pretty much top of the line when it comes to Chintz. I love old English cottageware also. It looks really cute with chintz pieces. mixed with a few cute Tobys. Chrisy
